Wild Animal Show

Thursday we had our annual wild animal convocation. Ask your child about some of the incredible animals we saw!  Here's a picture of a Timber Wolf who stopped by at our convocation.

Library Day!

We haven't been able to have library the last several weeks due to the lack of volunteers.  The children were especially excited to get to hear some fun stories and choose a new book to bring home today!

Take time to read your child's book aloud to them for a few nights this week and return it to school by next Monday, September 30.  Let me know if you're interested in volunteering in our library occasionally and I'll pass your name along to our media specialist, Ms. Zimmerman.

Also, our picture day is on Monday, Sept. 30.  Our farm field trip is on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Shape Builders in Mrs. Guinn's Math Group

We used Popsicle sticks to create the shapes we've been learning about!  We are great shape builders!!

Learning through technology

Today we used iPads to type our sight words phrases into the "Notes" app!  The kids learned how to use the space bar and the return key also--  no easy feat!

Three Cheers for Teamwork!

Kids worked in teams with their classmates to produce a "bubble map" of different ways to make a number.  Here's a great example by one hard-working group:

Lunch Reward!

Table 1 and Table 2 earned a "lunch in the classroom with Mrs. Guinn" reward today!  Table 3 is close to their reward!

Mirroring

Today we learned an arts-based strategy called "Mirroring".  With a partner the children become a mirror of the other, moving their body to match their partner's.  This strategy is a great way to build our concentration!  Our busy, often noisy, classroom was magically silent as the kids focused on the activity.  We will be adding other arts-based strategies as the year goes by.

Teamwork!

Cooperation is key!  We practiced teamwork today through a cooperative choice time.  Look at these tricky puzzles and hard working kiddos!
